Get Involved / Volunteering

The museum is run almost entirely by volunteers and supported by entrance fees and our own fundraising activities.

Volunteers welcome the museum’s visitors at the admission counter and serve in the book and gift shops. Volunteers research enquiries and provide curatorial assistance with cataloguing artefacts and continually adding to our digital database of images. Volunteers also work on specific projects, such as conservation and display preparation making the major contribution to the growth and development of the museum.

The museum is a member of Volunteering Tasmania and we value a culture of mutual respect and fairness within our team, as well as acknowledging our volunteer’s generosity, skills, knowledge and intellectual contribution to the museum’s activities.

Whilst enjoying the benefits of museum membership, a number of events are organised through the year for volunteers, including visits to other museums and places of interest.

To become a volunteer you must first join the museum. To find out how, click here.

If you are already a museum member, please contact the museum by telephone or email for an appointment with the Volunteer Coordinator.
