Tasmania – Australia's
only island state – reaches into the Great Southern Ocean and
takes the full brunt of the Roaring 40's. Its rugged coastline
is known to mariners world wide.
The Maritime Museum
of Tasmania has captured some of its rich maritime heritage
for all time. The collection began in the 1920's with
the Ship Lovers Society, becoming the Maritime Museum in 1973,
firstly at St Georges Hall, then Secheron House and finally
moving to Constitution Dock in 1999. Click here

The State
Government, the Hobart City Council and the Tasmanian Museum
and Art Gallery provide generous support. The Museum
seeks to work with other organisations whose objectives are
similar to its own.
"We are dedicated
to displaying and interpreting this collection to the people
of Tasmania, especially the young people, as well as visitors
to the State." (President of the Maritime Museum)
