Learning program Year 3: Extraordinary Locals, Changing Lives

1st Jan 2000

In the Year 3 Program Extraordinary Locals, Changing Lives, your students will explore key questions like:

  • How has our community changed? What features have been lost and what features have been retained?
  • What is the nature of the contribution made by different groups and individuals in the community?

Through the prism of these questions, students will look at

  • daily life
  • maritime transport
  • communication
  • occupations
  • change in the environment over time
  • significant local individuals

Students will learn to use primary sources such as objects, film and images to develop and test hypotheses, and use their imaginations to try to understand daily life on a light house or steam ship.

As well as the activity cards that guide students through the museum there is a rich selection of pre and post visit activities for teachers to choose from to tailor the program to their student's needs.
